The short answer
If you run one local service business with a few thousand dollars a month, three of our own rules of thumb pick between a self-serve AI tool, an AI-run service and an agency staffed by people.
- Ad spend per channel: under $1,500 a month is below our minimum; a tool, doing it yourself or Third Marble (from $1,000 of spend) fits better.
- Counted leads: if calls and forms are not tracked yet, fix that first. Ryze's review says a tool's targets must come from your margin and close rate.
- Weekly review: if you will not open the ad account every week, a self-serve tool is the wrong choice.
What AI tools and services cost
Five vendors, sorted by cheapest plan ($49 to $297), not ranked. Not in the table, per month: Ryze's SEO Starter ($129), Agency ($279) and Shopify CRO ($1,499), and BattleBridge's custom plans from $2,500.
| Vendor and kind | Price, read October 6, 2026 | What the price counts | What its own pages say it cannot do |
|---|---|---|---|
| HyperSelf-serve AI agent software | Starter $49 a month after a 7-day free trial. Pro $99. Business $299. | Starter: 5 AI agents and 5,000 credits a month, on your own ad accounts. The subscription does not cover ad spend. | Agents pause when credits run out, until the next cycle or a top-up. Its blog says it is not a CRM and “does not manage bookings”. |
| NativeSelf-serve AI social posts and Meta ads | Pro $79 a month for 1 brand. Max $249 for 3 brands. Agency $499 for 10 client workspaces. | Pro: 50 posts a month for your approval on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and 10 more channels. Meta ads can run on autopilot. | Its compare page lists “paid media buying and management” under where an agency wins. Its pricing FAQ says Google Ads is not live yet. |
| Ryze AISelf-serve AI ad agent, and a done-for-you plan | Paid Ads $89 a month ($1 setup, 7-day free trial). Traffic Printer, done-for-you SEO and GEO, $599 a month. | Paid Ads: audits plus bid and budget changes on Google, Meta and more, with approval controls on every change. The price is flat at any ad spend. | Its review (August 20, 2026) says it cannot make a landing page convert, targets come from your margin and close rate, and it needs a baseline period. |
| BattleBridgeAI-run team of agents | $197 a month per agent. All 10 agents $797. Its ads product is separate: 5% of managed spend, at least $497 a month under $30,000 of spend. | Agents for SEO, content, email, social, voice, chat, analytics, website and CRM. No setup fee and no long-term contract. | Its blog (April 3, 2026) says agencies still add value for original creative campaigns, crisis communications and strategic partnerships. It says the agents “do not replace the need for marketing strategy”. |
| Contractor's Choice AIDone-for-you service for contractors, sold as an AI marketing system | $297 a month for Meta ads, a website and an AI appointment setter. Or $499 a month plus $499 once for local SEO and Google Maps work. | Month-to-month. Appointment-setter usage is billed separately. The page does not say who pays the ad spend. | It lists no limits on what the service does. It does list “Guaranteed top 3 Google Maps ranking or work for free”. |
Five AI sellers' pages print human-agency ranges, from $1,000 to $50,000 a month, next to their own price.
| Page and the date it gives | Human agency, per month | AI side, per month | Savings it prints |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ryze AI, pricingUpdated September 18, 2026 | $1,000 to $25,000 | Paid Ads $89, flat at any ad spend. | Example: an agency at $2,000 a month plus 10% of $30,000 of spend costs $60,000 a year, against $1,068 a year for Paid Ads. |
| Hyper, blogJuly 4, 2026 | $1,000 to $5,000 or more | $49 a month, flat. | No percentage. |
| Made For Builders, comparisonModified June 2, 2026, in the page data | $2,000 to $8,000 for a US small business | From $600 to $2,500, all-in. | 30% to 70% lower cost. |
| BattleBridge, blogApril 3, 2026 | $5,000 to $20,000 | $197 per agent, $797 for the full team of 10. | The AI team at 4% to 16% of the cost. |
| Soku, blogJuly 20, 2026 | $15,000 to $50,000 for a mid-market engagement | Roughly $2,000 to $8,000. | 30% to 60% cheaper on production-heavy work. |
AI side $49 to $8,000 a month, human side starting at $1,000 to $15,000: each savings percentage rests on one seller's own baseline.
What agencies publish
Sorted by price: Third Marble (from $499, Google Ads only), the Ahrefs poll ($1,557, SEO only) and ours.

| Third Marble MarketingRichmond, VA. Google Ads management. | Growth plan from $499 a month for $1,000 to $20,000 of monthly ad spend, plus a $399 onboarding fee once. Fees are tiered by needs and budget. Partner plan from $2,000 a month for spend up to $50,000. | Growth: a dedicated account manager, 1 strategy call a month, monthly reporting, setup and ongoing optimization. Partner: up to 4 strategy calls a month. Month-to-month, with one business day's notice to cancel. | Its onboarding fee does not include graphic design or video editing. |
| Ahrefs poll of 439 SEO providersUpdated August 15, 2024 | Local SEO averages $1,557 a month: $1,819 at agencies, about $1,150 at freelancers. | Averages of what providers answered. SEO only, and not limited to the US. | It is a poll, not an offer, and it says nothing about ads. |
| MontreliaWebsite, SEO + GEO and ads, each sold separately. | SEO + GEO $2,000 a month. Google Ads $4,000 a month, or $6,000 with Meta. Setup: $1,000 for SEO + GEO and $1,000 per ad platform, charged once when the plan starts. 3-month minimum, then month-to-month. | SEO + GEO: a written report every week, including the raw AI answers, and a 60-minute call every 2 weeks. Ads: a call weekly (60 to 120 minutes), 4 Meta creatives a month, and a written summary every week. You pay the ad platforms directly, at least $1,500 per channel a month. | We do not promise a ranking, a date for a result, leads or a return on ad spend. Under $1,500 a month of ad spend per channel we are not the right fit. |
What Google and Meta let an AI change
| Tool or setting | What the platform's page says | Date on the page |
|---|---|---|
| Google Ads MCP server | Google's own MCP server for AI tools is “strictly read-only” in its current release: it cannot modify bids, pause campaigns or create new assets. | Updated September 30, 2026 |
| Google Ads Advisor | Google's AI agent inside Google Ads. In its section on certifications, the post says Ads Advisor “will ask for approval before taking action in your account”. The post describes its three new features as launching in the coming months. | April 21, 2026, modified June 5, 2026 in the page data |
| Google auto-apply recommendations | An opt-in setting that can apply bidding strategies, CPA and ROAS targets and keyword changes. It “won't increase your budget”, and Change history lists what was applied. | No date found |
| Meta ads AI connectors | In open beta: an AI tool can create and edit ads, ad sets and campaigns. Since July 16, 2026, anyone with full control of the business portfolio can set rules for what AI agents may do, “from budget changes to catalog updates”. | April 29, 2026, updated July 16, 2026 |
A third-party tool with edit access can change whatever that access allows; Google's budget sentence covers only its own auto-apply setting. You can remove a tool only if the account is in your name, which the 7-account ownership check tests.
Which one fits
On list price we cost more than every plan above. SEO + GEO is $2,000 a month against $49 to $797 for the AI plans. Google Ads is $4,000 against Third Marble's starting $499.
- Under $1,500 a month on a channel, and you will review it weekly: a tool at $49 to $89 a month, or doing it yourself. We are not the right fit below that (who we are not for). The ad budget checker tests whether the spend is enough.
- $1,000 to $20,000 a month on Google Ads and you want a people-run agency: Third Marble lists the lowest fee of the agencies we read, from $499 a month plus $399 once. For its Growth plan, 3 months cost at least $1,896 (3 x $499 + $399) against our $13,000, with 1 strategy call a month against our weekly call. Its Partner plan starts at $2,000 a month for spend up to $50,000. At $1,500 of spend our $4,000 fee is 2.7 times the spend (fee calculator).
- SEO, Google Business Profile work and a weekly report with raw AI answers: ours, $2,000 a month plus $1,000 once ($7,000 over 3 months), above the Ahrefs local SEO averages of $1,557 and $1,819 a month (poll updated August 15, 2024). More AI visibility prices: the GEO pricing page.
- You will not review weekly: BattleBridge's team plus its ads minimum is $1,294 a month on top of ad spend, if that spend is under $30,000 a month, or hire an agency. Ask who reviews changes and whether Change history is open to you.
- You want no minimum term: all five AI vendors and Third Marble list monthly terms. Ours is 3 months, then month-to-month.
- A provider guarantees a ranking: pass. Google's documentation (updated June 5, 2026) says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking; see the guarantee and minimum term guide.
What the numbers cannot tell you
- None of the BattleBridge, Soku or Made For Builders pages shows a measured result of an AI-run account against a human-run one, and Montrelia has no published client results. Nothing here says which model earns more.
- A price counts different work: Hyper's $49 counts 5,000 credits on software you operate, our $2,000 counts a written report every week and a call every 2 weeks.
- Prices change; ours are as of October 2, 2026. Six questions for any agency are in how to choose a marketing agency.

Questions people ask
Can AI run my Google Ads?
Only with the access you give it. Google's own MCP server only reads data, and Google's April 21, 2026 post says Ads Advisor will ask for approval before taking action in your account. A third-party tool can edit whatever its permissions allow. Keep the account in your own name so you can remove the tool, and open Change history weekly.
Do AI marketing plans include ad spend?
Hyper's page says its subscription "does not cover media spend". Native says media spend is separate; Ryze says your budget is paid directly to the platforms; Ryze adds an optional 5% to 0.8% of the spend it manages if it launches campaigns. BattleBridge prices its ads product at 5% of managed spend, at least $497 a month, under $30,000 of monthly spend. Contractor's Choice AI's page does not say.
Can I use an AI tool and an agency together?
Yes. Native's page says plenty of teams do both, using the tool for recurring posts and an agency for big campaigns and paid social. Our website, SEO + GEO and ads services are sold separately, so you can buy one. Keep each ad account in your own name, so a tool or an agency can leave without taking the history.
What should I check before paying an AI vendor?
Four things: whose name the ad account is in, what the vendor says it cannot do, whether a free trial lets you compare the tool's change log with Google's Change history (Ryze's review suggests this check), and what happens after the trial. Hyper's trial is 7 days, then $49 a month. Ryze's Paid Ads trial is 7 days with a $1 setup fee.
